Alaska Kite Adventures has evolved with the help of friends from the Alaskan kiting community since 2009.

Tom Fredericks - Alaska Kite Adventures

Tom Fredericks – Alaska Kite Adventures

Tom Fredericks is the founder of AKA and the primary driving force behind the energy that supports the Alaskan kiting scene.

Tom had been kiteboarding about 5 years in the heart of the pro scene of Hood River, Oregon when he was invited by well established Alaskan kiter Geroge Beirne to visit Alaska in 2006. The two of them organized a series of kiting clinics held in the Turagain Arm near Anchorage. From this very first venture Tom realized the endless potential here in AK for both kiteboarding and snowkiting. He wasted no time and committed to a permanent move to Alaska the same year. From day one Tom has shared his passion for kiting with the local community  through instruction, repairs and advice. By 2008 Tom had established himself as the “go to pro” for all things kiting. It was only natural to start Alaska Kite Adventures. With partners Obadiah Jenkins and Eric Newbury, AKA began four years of festivals, instruction, tours and expeditions from base locations in Girdwood and Anchorage.

In 2010,  Tom expanded AKA to the Mat-Su Valley. With assistance from friend and AKA partner Steve Carr,  AKA Headquarters was established on Lake Lucille where the wind blows continually all winter.

Alaska Mountain Products is the other business that Tom is owns. AMP specializes in custom sewing products, projects and repair. Please check out the AMP website at www.alaskamountainproducts.com

Eric Newbury - Alaska Kite Adventures

Eric Newbury – Alaska Kite Adventures

Eric Newbury is part of the  Alaska Kite Adventures family and he is the go to for logistical support. Eric has been Kiteboarding/Snowkiting since 2006. Another natural athlete Eric, grew up in Washington State. His parents George and MaryJo started the first NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) in the Pacific Northwest. With that said, Eric is truly at home in the outdoors and wilderness. A fishermen by trade, a Snowmachiner, Snowboarder, Climber, Welder, Mechanic, Captain, and Kiteboarder and Snowkiter. He is the person that is always lending a helping hand. We trust Eric’s snow sense in the Mountains of Alaska. He has an acute ability to mitigate and avoid dangerous situations that change on a daily basis.

In an effort to keep up with the growing demands, AKA has streamlined its services by focusing on repair and providing top quality gear. In order to facilitate this effort, in December 2012 we opened a new retail location in downtown Wasilla, Alaska. This will serve as our public location and retail pro shop.  See our News page for the latest updates.

AKA continues to provide service via festivals, clinics and various promotions including all the needs of Alaska’s growing kiting community as well as visiting kiters. Arrangements can be made for instruction and excursions of any level. Call us at (907) 947-4775.
