2018 Snowkite Season waking up!

Posted by: | Comments (0)

The 2017/18 Snowkite season if officially on! Come out with Alaska Kite Adventures and let us teach you how to snowkite!! Ages 10 and up. No experience necessary. If you are already a skier or snowboarder you have won half the battle! We teach you to fly our Ozone snowkites on foot first then we will progress to adding skis or snowboard. Our Snowkite 1 lesson is the perfect all around package @ 450.00 for 6 hrs of snowkite instruction. We like to break the snowkite lesson into 2 or 3 day blocks. Therefore the student gets to experience possibly 2 different locations and different wind, surface and weather conditions. We chase wind! Lesson locations are different every day. We teach at many different snowkiting locations between Talkeetna and Homer focusing on the Anchorage and Matanuska Valley. Photo Dan Young

2nd Annual Wings over Valdez

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Wings over Valdez posterThe Second Annual Wings over Valdez will be happening over the first two weekends of April. 4/5 and 11/12. There will be a mandatory pilots briefing/breakfast at 9am at the Totem Inn in Valdez Saturday morning April 4. The purpose of the Wings over Valdez event is to showcase the flying sports of Speed riding, Paragliding and Skydiving. The future goal of the W.O.V. event will be to show what the beautiful city of Valdez, Alaska has to offer as far as flying opportunities, and they are world class! From the tourism perspective, Valdez is the perfect city to host a world class paragliding acrobatic performance with dozens of pilots showing off their skills for all spectators to view. The city is set up with great lodging, dining and amenities for anyone wishing to spend a beautiful weekend watching the colorful wings descending from the high mountains above. Most of the pilots that will fly at the Wings over Valdez event are part of the Arctic Airwalkers club out of Eagle River, Alaska. The Arctic Airwalkers are the oldest and biggest paragliding club in the USA. With several US paragliding and World cup champions. The AAW was voted club of the year last year, by the United States Hang gliding and Paragliding Gliding Association. VS Helicopters will provide 2 helicopters whisking pilots to the top of the 5000ft+ mountains above Valdez. From there, pilots will coordinate acrobatic displays of technical flying. Look for spiral dives, wing overs and colored smoke to entertain. Also, speed wing or speed rider pilots will be hugging close to the Mountain and proximity flying and rapidly descending heart stopping lines over rock cliff faces. To kick off the Wings over Valdez event, Friday April 3rd 6-11pm at the Valdez Civic Center/Convention center auditorium in Valdez, Alaska Kite Adventures is Organizing the Alaskan Backcountry Search and Rescue Forum. The forum will feature several Keynote speakers talking about issues pertaining to Search and Rescue, Avalanche Awareness, backcountry travel, evacuation procedures, General trip planning procedures, expedition tales, and choosing proper safety gear. At the end of the evening the Shoot Dangs band from Anchorage will be closing the forum and kicking off the week and the Thompson Pass Snowkite Festival. If you have any questions about these events please call Tom at 907 947-4775
